Established in 1968, Paushak is a proud member of the Alembic Group’s 118-year-old legacy. The Alembic Group, founded in 1907 in Vadodara, Gujarat, India, holds the distinction of being the oldest pharmaceutical company in India.
With a journey spanning 57 years, Paushak has established itself as the largest specialty and customized phosgene derivative producer in India, boasting a cutting-edge phosgene plant with a capacity of 14,400 MT per annum. Our production site is one of the early recipients of the “Responsible Care” logo, demonstrating our commitment to the environment and society.
With a globally scaled infrastructure and automation, we produce a variety of specialty phosgene derivatives, including chloroformates, isocyanates, carbamoyl chlorides, carbamates, carbonates, and niche products for our global partners. Our key strength lies in handling different scales of synthesis, ranging from grams to multi-metric tonnes.
Our production facility is strategically located near Vadodara, Gujarat, which is India’s key chemical industry hub. This location provides proximity to all major ports in Western India.
Our dedicated workforce of over 300 employees, including around 30 scientists in R&D, helps us provide solutions to cater to a variety of custom requirements.

A Rich History Spanning Over 57 Years

1968

Established in Baroda as an agrochemical company, named "Paushan" (nutrition).

1969

Started production of Super Phosphate for crop nutrition.

1974

Launched various branded agro-formulations for the Indian market.

1979

Obtained a Phosgene License of 1600 MT/ Year; set up a pilot plant in Baroda with American technology.

1980

Discontinued fertilizer products; introduced Phosgene derivatives at Panelav.

1981

Commissioned our new Phosgene plant.  Launched technical and agro formulations.

2002

Discontinued agro active business; shifted focus towards intermediates

2013

Expanded Phosgene manufacturing capacity from 1600 to 4800 MT/Year.

2019

Became the 56th Indian company permitted to use the "Responsible Care" logo.

2021

Expanded Phosgene capacity to 14,400 MT/ Year, the largest for specialty derivatives in India.

Established the largest downstream capacity of Chloroformates in India.

2025

Ongoing execution of New Multipurpose Plant R&D & Pilot plant

Alembic Chemical Works Company Limited

Over a century ago, scientific brilliance joined forces with business acumen with a mission to Make in India during the tumultuous British Raj. Thus on 31st July 1907 was born India’s first: Alembic Chemical Works Company Limited.

1943

Started manufacturing hydraulic pumps under this company.

1958

Operationalised YERA, India’s largest glassware brand.

PENICILLIN

Alembic became the first company in India to manufacture PENICILLIN.

1944

Shreno Ltd.

Ventured into manufacturing of structural metal products, tanks, reservoirs and steam generators.

1959

FLYING CLUB

Launched Gujarat’s 1st FLYING CLUB.

1961

Glass Factory

Started glass factory in Bangalore.

1964

Instituted Bhailal Amin General Hospital (BAGH) as a humble primary healthcare centre for employees and their families.

1972

Launched specialty chemicals company which has mastered the production of phosgene gas.

1971

NIRAYU PVT. LTD.

Alembic’s very own distillery in Whitefield, Bangalore.

1966

Converted its own printing press, in operation since the founding of the Company, into LIGHT PUBLICATIONS.

1974

NEOMER LIMITED

Started manufacturing polypropylene stable fibre under this company.

2010

ALEMBIC PHARMACEUTICALS LTD.

The company is manufacturing and marketing India Formulations, International Generics, and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients with vertical integration capabilities.

ALEMBIC REAL ESTATE

Leveraging its past experience in developing over 10 mn sq. ft. land, Alembic ventured into formal real estate development with an aim to transform urban living through better design.

2021

Manufacturing of wide range of products and services for paper pulp industry, chemical and process industries and oil and gas industries.

2018

Launched its real estate activities.
